Ms. Judi's Dog Treats Recipe
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1/3 cup margarine
1 can chicken or beef broth
3/4 cup powdered milk
3/4 cup cornmeal
1 egg beaten
3 cup whole wheat flour
In a large bowl pour hot broth over oatmeal and margarine; let stand 5 minutes.
Stir in powdered milk, cornmeal and egg. Add flour 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well
after each addition. Knead 3-4 minutes, adding more flour if necessary to make a
very stiff dough. Pat or roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Place on a greased cookie
sheet. Cut with a pizza cutter to desired size (I cut mine small...1/4" square). Bake
for 50 minutes at 350º. Let cool and dry out until hard. Break apart the treats.
Store in the refrigerator in a zip bag or an open container on the counter. These
treats will get moldy if you store them at room temperature in an airtight container.
